So, are you ready to start your discovery of the world of German Christmas Markets? If your answer is a joyous “Yes!” then you probably already realize that now comes the daunting task of figuring out exactly where you want to go. With hundreds of choices, how does one ever decide? If my tips last year weren’t enough for you, now I offer you another one…the one in lovely tiny town of Jena.
The Christmas market in Jena consists of numerous stalls offering baked goods and hot food to the visitors. Hot wine and brandy punch are served against the cold. Other stalls complete the typical christmas market program by selling christmas crafts and products. The christmas market has a long tradition and gets its visitors into the mood for the festive season.
Cakes, decorations, lights, ornaments, cookies, gingerbread, punch, mulled wine, bradwurst…this and much more can be found there.
This market is the oldest Christmas fair in Thuringia and takes place on the picturesque main square of the city. One of the main highlights behind its unique atmosphere is Jena’s restored market square at the heart of its historic old city centre. It’s traditionally opened with the cutting of a 4-metre-long giant Christmas cake (Stollen) on 25th November. You can also enjoy traditional Christmas concerts that are held here every day at 5 p.m. from the tower of the Town Hall. No wonder that Jena Christmas Market is considered to be one of the most stunning of its kind.
When? From 27th November to 22nd December 2017
