Shopping in the Netherlands

Hello everybody!

Who doesnt like shopping? Maybe men, yes, but even men sometimes need something (usually food). In this article of Dutch Week I will write everything about shopping in the Netherlands – currency, opening hours, prices, etc.

Shopping
Official currency of the Netherlands is as for a member of EU euro.
Paying with card is in shops very widespread.
In bakery you will not find rolls, but you will be able to choose between big amount of different buns and baguettes.
Dutch bread is more fluffy than breads from other countries. You can choose from different types.
Fruit and vegetables along with meat can be bought in immigrant neighbourhoods, too, dont worry about that. Products are always fresh and with a very good price.
Organic food can be found in every supermarket or in dense network of specialized organic shops. Its price is comparing to the other food much higher.
Fresh flowers can be bought not only on flower markets (bloemenmarkt), which you will find in every bigger town, but also on streets in the town centres. Prices of flowers are comparing to their prices in other countries very low. On Saturday evening are usually discounted. Purchase of 50 roses for 7€ isnt anything special.
Bulbs can be got on flower markets since end of the summer. You wont find here only giant mass of different types of tulips, but also daffodils, hyacinths, snowdrops, amaryllises, crocuses and other.
Usual opening hours of shops are in Monday-Saturday from 9:00 to 18:00. Actual opening hours are on http://www.openingstijden.nu. Shops are sometimes opened on evening, too (koopavond), or on Sunday (koopzondag). Detailed informations can be found on http://www.koopzondagen.net.
